Michel Wyss: Mil Academy ETH Zurich, Non-State Proxy Wars, New Paradigms with Sargis Sangari EP #91

On Monday, 28 MAR 22, on Episode #91 of New Paradigms with Sargis Sangari, Michel Wyss of the Military Academy at #ETH Zurich returns to discuss non-state actors involved in #Ukraine and the European proxy war #realignments.

Have the ghosts of the #ColdWar returned with a more dangerous and complex paradigm?

Michael notes that the war in Ukraine is a combination of old Cold War-era proxy wars combined with a new and potentially more dangerous and complex element of non-state actors bringing the state-level capability to the battlefield.

Is this new type of proxy war evolutionary or revolutionary?

Michael Wyss argues that it is an evolution of the old proxy wars, but one that raises the increased specter of “blowback” to the supporting nations. What happens if these enhanced #technological capabilities supplied by non-state agencies and actors go out of control of the countries that support or endorse them? The potential for a more considerable spillover of damage outside the proxy war area increases tenfold.

Michael Wyss also notes that the #EU and #America have not set any goals for lifting #sanctions against #Russia, which should be done if the conflict resolution was indeed a goal.

How should the US manage #proxy wars in the future? Is this something the US and #Europe should even consider? Is the current proxy war well thought out or a knee-jerk reaction to a failure of leadership on the part of the US?

Join us in this episode to look at the New Paradigm of Proxy wars.
