Christian foreign fighters deserting Kurdish YPG in Syria because they’re ‘damn Reds’

On 21 MAR 16 NEC-SE posted:  The Kurds will take DOD monies and support but their hearts belongs to their first love, the Russians.

In the article we stated: “Less than a day after Ash Carter’s testimony where Russia was pointed out as the first among the major challenges for the DOD, Mr. Adel Mourad, Secretary of the Central Council of the Patriotic Kurdistan Union (PUK) met with Russian Ambassador Elijah Morkanof in [the] KRG and stated to the Russian representative that the Kurdish in Iraq, Syria, and Turkey are allies of Russia.”

On 20 MAR 16 NEC-SE posted:  “Why does the KRG need Russian anti-aircraft systems (Zu-23-2 E) in Erbil?”

In the article we stated:  “On 14 MAR 16 in a ceremony in Erbil, the same day that HR 75 passed in the US House of Representatives and whose language took the KRG one step closer to statehood, the Russians gave the Kurdish Regional Government anti-air systems (Zu-23-2 E).”

“Don’t be surprised if these weapons end up making their way to YPG hands in order to be used in the Qamishli airport or [in] their self-declared autonomous region after it has been taken over by the YPG. The airport will allow the YPG to fly out necessary legal and illegal resources to fund their military campaigns. With their proposed region tying into the Mediterranean, the reality is that now Russia will have two possible allies with access to … Mediterranean ports. Either way, the reality is that Russia will have … allies in the region willing to do its bidding for generations to come.”

The following article from Middle East Eye reported that since 19 FEB 15 Christian foreign fighters began deserting Kurdish YPG in Syria because they’re ‘damn Reds.’ They left to Join the only Assyrian Army command and controlled force in Iraq (Dwekh Nawsha)

The article continues: “Volunteers with the Kurdish group have warned of an exodus to other militias over the group’s left-wing views.

“Foreign volunteers fighting the Islamic State (IS) are leaving the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and joining other militias due to the group’s left-wing socialist ideology.

“According to foreign fighters quoted by AFP, an exodus is currently underway of US and other Western volunteers from the YPG due their left-wing stance, with one US army veteran – referred to as ‘Scott’ – claiming he decided not to join after finding out they were a ‘bunch of damn Reds.’

“Another British volunteer named Alan Duncan also said he had left the YPG, who are based in the Syrian Kurdistan region also known as Rojava, because of their leftist views and said he knew a number of other people were planning to leave soon for the same reason.

“Many have instead chosen to join Dwekh Nawsha, a Christian militia in northern Iraq whose ideology chimes more with western Christian volunteers than the intensely secular YPG.

“One Christian American volunteer, who called himself Brett, told Reuters that he had joined Dwekh Nawsha (which translates as ‘self-sacrifice’) in Iraq’s Nineveh province where Christian villages still held out against IS.

“‘Here I’m fighting for a people and for a faith, and the enemy is much bigger and more brutal,’ the army veteran said, comparing it to his time with the US military in Iraq in 2006.

“These are some of the only towns in Nineveh where church bells ring. In every other town the bells have gone silent, and that’s unacceptable.”

He added that he was not afraid to die for his faith.
