Even as the Assyrian communities in the Middle East is being eradicated, we have endured another blow to the Assyrian nation with the passing of Mar Dinkha IV, the head of the Church of the East. It is a sad sign of the times that Mar Dinkha will be buried in a diaspora nation and not in the ancestral homeland of the Assyrian people within the Nineveh Plains, but this state of affairs need not continue forever. Surely we have it within our power to effect positive change in the region! Let us resolve, therefore, to put aside our religious and secular divides and divisions and join in common cause to achieve the goal of self-governance for the Assyrian people under the protection of an Assyrian Army. And in doing so let us keep in mind, always, the words of Peter when he said, “Be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.”
